Your Own Winery is a New Jersey ABC licensed wine-making shop in Butler NJ (Morris County) (@ Bromat Plaza). Our wine making process starts with top quality wine juices, not grapes. To the best of our knowledge, we are the only consumer wine-making facility in New Jersey or New York, or the entire Northeast for that matter, which starts with wine juice. All other consumer wine-making facilities start with wine grapes. Most importantly, finished wine made from grapes cannot be guaranteed – as the grapes from which the wine is made are unpredictable. See the table below for complete comparison of making wine from wine juice vs. grapes.

Wine lovers come to Your Own Winery to personally make their own wine. Takes just 2 one hour sessions 8 weeks apart. (See Wine-making Steps) Over 50 wines to choose from.  (See Wine Selections)  Expert personal instruction is provided each step through the process. Your wine-making is not a group class – it is your personal wine-making session. You select the wine you wish to make by a free tasting from over 50 samples at our wine-tasting bar. Then enjoy our beautiful, clean and comfortable Tuscany décor shop with the wonderful smell of wine filling the air as we guide you through the process of making your wine.

Wine making at Your Own Winery is done in Half or Full Batches. A Full Batch is 6 gallons of wine, or 28 regular size 750ml wine bottles, which is what you will personally make with our hands-on instruction. A Half Batch is 14 regular size 750ml wine bottles – you will actually make a Full Batch, but take home a Half Batch, we keep the other Half Batch for tasting samples. PLEASE NOTE: Each Batch of Wine is ONE TYPE OF WINE, hence 14 or 28 bottles of the same wine.

Wine Making from Juice – Different than Wine Making from Grapes
table comparing wine-making from wine juice vs grapes

Wine-Making from Wine Juice

Once you have selected the wine you wish to make, your wine-making begins that same day with the wine juice specific for your selected wine. Our wine juices come from every major wine growing region in the world. Italy, France, US, Australia, Spain, Argentina, Germany, Chile and South Africa. And since our tasting samples were made from the same wine juice as your wine will be – your finished wine will be virtually identical to the wine sample you tasted, loved and selected to make. Do not think of our wines as the home-made wine your grandfather may have made in the basement or garage. Come taste for yourself – these are truly great wines. Even though your wine-making starts with wine juice, most of our Red Wines include the addition of grape skins so your finished wine has all the character and complexity as if made from grapes.

Wine-Making in Small Batches

Your wine-making would be done in a batch of 6 gallons, which is considered “small batch” wine making. Your small batch wine will yield 28 full size bottles of your selected wine. While 28 bottles of wine may seem like a lot – please consider this. How many bottles of wine do you drink each week? If the answer is 2-3 bottles per week like most wine lovers – 28 bottles is only a 2-3 month supply. Plus its “your own wine”, wine you personally made, bottled with your custom bottle label. And our wines have 10% the sulfites of store wine, because you made it from scratch in our ultra clean shop and it doesn’t have to sit on a store shelf for 3+ years.

Great Wine – Great Price – Share a Batch

And for $10 – $15 per bottle, depending on the wine you select, you will be taking home a wine which easily exceeds a wine you could purchase at the same price. Plus, you will have the fun, experience and pride of personally making your own great wine. Finished off with your own custom bottle label using a favorite photo, image or anything else, which we help you design – and your custom label is included in the price. But also, if 28 bottles is more wine than you’d like to take home at one time, you can share the batch and the cost with friends. There’s no extra charge for sharing a batch.

Wine-making Steps at Your Own Winery

Day 1

Taste up to 6 wines at our free wine-tasting bar, to select the wine you wish to make. And because our sample wines have been from the same juice as the wine you will make, your finished wine will be essentially identical to the sample you loved. That same day, you will start your wine, all with our expert personal instruction. This step will be mixing several ingredients, most importantly the wine juice with specifically selected wine yeast to start the fermentation process. Fermentation is the wine yeast consuming the sugar in the wine juice, converting it to alcohol – yeah. Once you have started fermentation, your wine is stored in our shop for about two weeks while the fermentation process is completed.

Week before your bottling day – we filter your wine through a series of fabric pads to ensure your finished wine is crystal clear for your bottling day.

Day 56

Your Bottling Day. Fill you will rinse and sterilize your bottles. Next, using a syphon, you will fill your bottles with your finished wine. Once filled, you will cork the bottles, and then heat-seal a foil bottle topper on your bottle – you get to choose the color of the bottle topper from over 30 different colors. Lastly, you will affix your custom label to the bottles.
