Aerating Wine results in a better tasting wine

Coffee is to People – what Air is to Wine. Wakes them Up.

Aerating Wine means expose the wine to air for a relatively short period of time. Exposing wine to air triggers both oxidation and evaporation. But oxidation beyond a very short period of time is what turns a wine bad. Short period oxidation though releases some of the less desirable and bad tasting compounds from the wine and allows them to evaporate. So you end up with a better tasting wine, an untainted reflection of the grapes from which the wine was born. Opening the bottle just 15 minutes before drinking it will in most cases make a noticeable difference. Swirling your glass of wine accomplishes a similar thing – it mixes the wine with air on a rapid basis.

An elegant and fun way of aerating wine is to run it through a device, ingeniously called, an aerator. One such aerator is shown in the image above – the WineWeaver. We use the WineWeaver at the shop and like it for a couple of reasons. First, you can aerate a single glass of wine, or the entire bottle with the WineWeaver atop a wine decanter. Also, the WineWeaver is hard plastic so will not break if you drop it, and comes with its own stand which is very convenient after use so wine isn’t dripping everywhere. It comes in lots of cool colors, and is not expensive. Best of all, the WineWeaver does a fantastic job of aerating your wine. The WineWeaver website.

About Your Own Winery

Your Own Winery is a New Jersey Alcohol Beverage Commission licensed “Wine-Making School”. We opened for business in February 2013 in Riverdale, NJ at the Riverdale Square center best known as the location of Blu Ale House. In early 2019, we moved to the Bromat Shopping Plaza, 1574 State Route 23 North in Butler, NJ, about 3 miles north on route 23 from our previous location.

Wine lovers come to Your Own Winery to take their passion for wine to the next level, by learning how to and enjoying the experience of wine-making. There are several other personal wine-making facilities in New Jersey, but to the best of our knowledge, we are the only wine-making shop where your personal wine-making starts with top quality wine juices, not wine grapes as is the case with the other personal wine-making options. Read More about our wine-making and the advantages of starting from wine juices vs. grapes. Some other big reasons why we are the go-to choice for personal wine-making:

  • Our 2,000sf ultra-clean elegant Tuscany décor shop is the perfect setting to enjoy your wine-making experience
  • As our wine-making starts with wine juice not grapes – it takes only 2 one-hour sessions about 8 weeks apart to make “Your Own Wine”
  • We have over 50 great wines to choose from for personal wine-making – all available for free tasting so you can decide which wine or wines you want to make
  • Plus, because we start with wine juice, the process is nearly fool-proof – so we can offer a 100% money back guarantee if your finish wine does not turn out virtually identical to the wine sample you tasted and selected
  • And our wines have only 10% of the sulfites of commercial wines – so no more headaches
  • Best of All, to truly make it “Your Own Wine” – your Custom Bottle Label is always included at no extra charge, and we’ll help you design it.

Your Own Winery is also the premier destination in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania for Wine Favors, as a wedding favor, as a bridal shower favor, for any occasion where a bottle of personalized great wine is the perfect thank you gift. We have customers coming from Massachusetts to Virginia for our wine wedding favors, because our wine favors simply are not available anywhere else. That’s not all. Our wine-making shop is the perfect setting for Wine Theme Parties, and especially Winery Bridal Showers.

We also offer Wine-making Gifts Certificates, which makes a fabulous gift for all the wine lovers in your family and circle of friends. A great Christmas gift and for Valentine’s Day, Mother’s and Father’s Day.
